1 D.  Four-year undergraduate and graduate participants:

A total of 57 Whittier College undergraduate students and two graduate students served K-12 students in Whittier UC Links programs during the 2005-2006 academic year.  These undergraduates and graduates provided the services listed under #3 and #4 above.  Of the 59, 38 were Latino.  Thirty five participated through Whittier College courses affiliated with the UC Links site, while 21 from throughout the college participated as with support from a special financial aid package through a grant from the B. C. McCabe Foundation to Whittier College.

2. Participating Schools:

Most of the Whittier UC Links site¹s services to children and youth were provided at the Boys & Girls Club of Whittier, 7905 S. Greenleaf Ave., Whittier, 90602.  These include the services listed in #3 as ³tutoring/homework assistance,² academic enrichment/supplemental learning,² and ³educational field trips.²  This Boys & Girls Club enrolls 1,200 members, with attendance drawn from low-income, predominantly Latino schools in Whittier, East Whittier, and South Whittier.  Since services are not provided in these schools, they are not listed here as partner schools.  The schools and grades listed in #2 are only those that participated in the Whittier site¹s 2005-2006 Day on Campus program, indicated under #3 as ³College visit/college student shadowing.²  These schools are listed because educational experiences are provided in these schools to inform students about college/university admissions requirements, financial aid, academic opportunities, and residential alternatives.  These occur prior to a daylong visit to the Whittier College campus.

*La Cause Youthbuild is one local site of a youth program funded nationally by the Department of Housing and Urban Development.  It offers courses leading to a G. E. D. or high school diploma, mentoring, and training in construction skills. La Causa Youthbuild students are listed in #1D as in 12th grade, since they complete high school requirement in one school year.
